A bunch of Movie reviews! 21, Made of Honor, Iron Man, Speed Racer

Here's a bunch of reviews of Movies I've seen in the last week or two, some have been out a while but anyways.
21,
So this is a really late review but here we go. 21 chronicles a group of MIT students who go to Las Vegas and count cards, cashing in and having the time of their life. This film overall is a pretty well put together. Jim Sturgess is good as the lead Ben Campbell, although there is the rare occasion where you can tell he's covering his English accent, but generally his performance is good. Kevin Spacey as the professor who orchestrates the whole thing gives a performance worthy of his illustrious career and Kate Bosworth isn't bad as the female lead. Overall the leads are good but where this movie really shines is in the supporting cast. There's no one particularly recognisable but they really establish a setting of mathtacular MIT for Sturgess and Bossworth who otherwise might not be as believable as mathaletes. The direction does a good job at painting a stark contrast between Boston and the glittering Vegas to evoke moods. Overall a good enjoyable film. 6.5/10
Made of Honor
Patrick Dempsey plays Tom a Misogynist who somehow isn't that bad of a guy who discovers he's in love with his best friend Hannah (Sarah Monaghan) just as she meets her mister right the Scottish Noble Collin, played by Kevin McKidd. This film is essentially a remake of My best friends Wedding (which was actually okay,) with gender switched. This film fell flat for me in almost every way. I can actually enjoy a good romantic comedy but this is not a good romantic comedy. You never sympathise with Dempsey's character Monaghan's Hannah is Two dimensional, and Collin's character is somewhat ridiculous. The plot is predictable the dialog trite. This film really doesn't have much to offer. 1.5/10
Iron Man
This comic book adaption covers Tony Stark billionaire arms developer (Robert Downey Jr.) ascent to becoming bionic super hero Iron Man and fighting evil everywhere. Along for the ride with him is his devoted assistant Pepper Pots (Gwenyth Paltrow) his buddy in the military Jim Rhodes (Terrence Howard) and mentor and business associate Obadiah Stone (Jeff Bridges)
This is definitely one of the better Super Hero films. Downey's banter makes Tony Stark into the arrogant industrialist that for some reason you like. His quips are funny and dry. Jeff Bridges is deep and believable and gives one of his better performances. Terrence Howard and Paltrow are never bad but maybe not quite as memorable as Downey and Bridges. The film does a really good job at capturing the spirit of the comic and has plenty of little nods for the comic geek yet it never alienates the average non comic book reading public. The plot is not amazing but it has one or two little twist that keep it interesting and the pacing never lets you down. No, this wont win any Oscars but it does what it's supposed to it. It's a fun summer movie that will sell a million Iron Man action figures. 8/10
Speed Racer
This live action film adaption of the classic Japanese Anime Speed Racer, follows Speed Racer(Emile Hersch) along with his family and girlfriend Trixie, on his rise through a colorful racing obsessed world. You will like or dislike this film based on how much you can stand anime and the colors. I'm just enough of a nerd that I really enjoyed it. First of the film is paced sort of like a Japanese cartoon, that is it's a relatively simple plot that is pulled out over a space of time that you would think is to big to fill, yet with help of epic action sequences it makes it the whole way. I for the most part found that charming but they probably would have been wise to trim it down maybe 20 minutes or so of the long 2hr 20min runtime. The dialog isn't stellar but it seems exactly like something you might here in an old Speed Racer episode. The Acting isn't bad Hersch is good. John Goodman as Pops Racer is what you'd expect. Christina Ricci looks and acts eerily like an anime charecter made flesh with her ginormous eyes and smallish other facial features. The strongest cast member is probably Susan Sarandon, who brings a lot of heart to the film as Mom Racer. Visually this film is pretty amazing, either that or seizure inducing, depending if you can stand constantly moving bright colors all the time. It looks like a cartoon with people walking around in it. Sort of like a bizzarro Who framed Roger rabbit world that's obsessed with racing. The intense driving scenes and crazy kaleidoscope visuals are the best thing about the film. There is a lot of nods to the original series and to anime, really it's just live action anime. Overall this film will probably be a cult classic and is for adults who enjoys the genre of Anime, or really over the top cartoons or remembers watching Speed Racer fondly and a fun movie for kids to enjoy. 6.5/10
